Short films on work health and safety solutions

Five short films on work health and safety solutions were published by the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. These short films aim to provide practical solutions for work health and safety issues which have been successfully addressed by businesses in Queensland.

Each film focuses on a business which has been a finalist in the 2011 Queensland Safe Work Awards. The films give useful insights on how new safety solutions were developed by the businesses and how you can implement the same in your workplace.

The Australian Reinforcing Company

The Australian Reinforcing Company identified risks associated with top of truck safety, loading and unloading trucks and load containment, which led to unique solutions that can be implemented across a variety of industries to significantly reduce work at height risks.

Cement Australia

For Cement Australia, a large number of injuries occurred when getting into and out of truck cabs or during mandatory pre-start checks. This led to the development and implementation of the ?SAFER on the GROUND? initiative allowing drivers to conduct their pre-start checks with their feet always firmly on the ground.

Russell Mineral Equipment

Russell Mineral Equipment identified many risks associated with the manual disposal of heavy and sharp pieces of scrap metal ? risks such as musculoskeletal disorders, cuts, burns, crushing injuries and fatigue. They developed the ?Self Dumping Steel Waste Pallet,? which eliminated the manual collection and disposal of steel off-cuts.

Joanne Crotty of Danger Sun Overhead

Joanne promotes the awareness and prevention of skin cancer in outdoor workers through worksite talks, where she shares the experience of her husband?s tragic and preventable death from melanoma skin cancer at age 43 ? leaving her to take care of four young boys herself.

ENERGEX

ENERGEX developed detailed and thorough safety management systems and plans that ensured no electrical safety incidents occurred during Queensland?s floods and throughout the recovery.
