St. Petersburg mayor, Rays' brass to sit down today

Last Updated: Friday, February 15, 2013, 6:29 AM

The ongoing odyssey of the Tampa Bay Rays stadium search continues Friday.

St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster is scheduled to meet today with representatives from the baseball team.

There has been an increase in dialogue recently surrounding the search for a stadium for the team, mainly coming from the county commissioners and city councils. Now, Foster is sitting down in person with team owner Stu Sternberg to talk.

Last week, the St. Petersburg city council shot down a proposal that would let the team look at stadium options in Hillsborough County for a fee.

There is no specific word on what the two sides will discuss today. It is being described as an ice-breaker-type conversation.

The team has a contract to play at Tropicana Field through 2027. However, Sternberg and team officials say they cannot remain at the facility that long.
