Position Overview:
EBI Consulting is currently seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to join our Energy and Sustainability Consulting Group in Burlington, MA. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical engineering analysis of a variety of building types and building systems as a part of the services offered by the Energy and Sustainability group. Immediate responsibilities of the position include the technical support and oversight of ongoing ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits.
The candidate should have a great amount of energy engineering and industry experience that will afford him or her to play a major role in the business development and growth of our Energy and Sustainability Consulting Group, while serving as the ultimate party responsible for the realization and administration of new innovative technical services.
The ideal candidate should have experience with the design and construction process, MEP design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, measurement and verification, LEED certification, energy modeling, in addition to having a working knowledge of building physics, thermodynamics, energy, and heat transfer. The ideal candidate will be adaptive to working with all property types, and should be highly experienced with the analysis and energy consumption associated with a variety of HVAC, lighting, controls, plumbing, and building enclosure systems in both new and existing buildings.
The candidate will be responsible for the authoring and review of technical reports and spreadsheets by others, while continuously training and mentoring junior engineers on technical and engineering related topics. The ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial attitude, be a strong leader, and work well in a dynamic group setting. This individual will be partially responsible for the continued growth of EBI's Energy and Sustainability Consulting Group, and must be able to articulate the value of our services to new and existing clients.
Exceptional communication skills, the ability to provide excellent client service and a commitment to building energy efficiency and sustainable design are essential for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Interface with clients to understand needs, describe the value of EBI's services, and ensure successful project delivery
- Assist in the development of new business via sales, client meetings, and proposal writing
- Conduct ASHRAE level I, II and III energy audits. Property types include but are not limited to multifamily, commercial, institutional, and industrial
- Review ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits performed by junior energy consultants, providing quality control of deliverable products before they are sent to clients, demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project schedules and budget
- Potentially author reports for ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits
- Mentor and train junior engineers through energy efficiency projects, including energy auditing, M&V, and commissioning/retro-commissioning
- Develop and/or review technical analyses using excel spreadsheets or modeling software
- Provide project management to oversee installation of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)
- Develop and execute measurement and verification (M&V) plans for installed ECMs
- Provide retro-commissioning services
- Travel occasionally in-state and out-of-state to project sites and to meet with clients on an as needed basis (approximately 20% of the time)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical, architectural, or electrical engineering
- Minimum of 15 years of experience within the design and construction or building energy efficiency industry
- Licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical)
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- Expertise of building systems (particularly HVAC), thermodynamics, and heat transfer and the ability to apply those concepts in a spreadsheet model for a variety of applications
- Demonstrated experience in energy auditing and performing ECM analysis
- Ability to manage multiple projects and junior engineers while meeting deadlines and budgets
- Experience performing Energy Modeling for Investment Grade Energy Audits and LEED Certification
- Demonstrated experience in business development
- Excellent technical, analytical, written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to travel
- Local industry contacts in New England is a plus
- LEED AP, BPI, or BEAP certification is a plus
- MEP design experience is a plus
