For my 4-year-old the holidays are all about Santa, hot chocolate, and snow. For me it?s more about the music, Christmas lights, and snow. Because we live in Alabama, snow is usually hard to come by (although if you lived here a couple of years ago, you know it?s not impossible) but there is one event each holiday season that provides everything on both our lists. Bridgestreet Town Center lights its giant Christmas tree each year around mid-November and if you aren?t already in the holiday mood by then, this FREE family-friendly event will get you there.
With roving Victorian carolers, performances by local high school choirs and of course, the big guy himself this is a great way to kick off the holidays. Our group typically meets up at Barnes & Noble (TIP: get there early to avoid parking hassles and as an added bonus, plenty of time to enjoy a little Starbucks) and then heads out towards the big tree around 5:30PM. The lighting itself begins at 6:15PM but the entertainment starts around 4:30PM.
By the time the lighting actually takes place there is usually a crowd so bring the baby carriers and try to leave the stroller at home if possible. After the lighting, your children will be excited to enjoy some ?snow? and a great performance by the Brent Morgan Band. It does look like it?s going to be cold so bundle up and get out the scarfs and gloves. We?ll see you there!
